Welcome Back

Welcome to our classroom!

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School year!  I am looking forward to a great year with your child! We have some very exciting plans for this year!

I am Annette Bauman and I will be your child’s teacher.  I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know your child and helping them grow this year! I want to give you a little background on me.  I have been married to  my husband for 15 years and we have an 11 year old son.  We also had another son that passed away 6 years ago.  He had many medical concerns as well as well as many delays. He taught me so much in his short 3 years in this world and really played a huge part in making me the person I am today.  If you are ever in Herculaneum, swing by and visit Kade’s Playground; it is named after my son.   I have been in the district for 15 years teaching kindergarten and early childhood special education. After Kade passed away I knew Early Childhood Special Education was where I wanted to be!

Our Staff

Kia Reising will be returning as our classroom assistant.

Christina Wilson will be our morning Speech and Language Pathologist.

Tina Straatmann will be our afternoon Speech and Language Pathologist.

Our class

In our class we strive to appreciate each child’s individuality and strengths.  We encourage each child to be as independent as possible.  We are a “talking” class.  Everyone is encouraged to use their language skills to express him or herself.  We often use the phrase “use your words” which means use your language to the best of your ability to express your wants and needs.  This can also mean incorporating sign language or pictures to communicate.

We will be working on pre-academics, speech, language, fine/gross motor, self-help and behavioral skills in class this year.  I am very excited about this school year and providing  a safe and nurturing environment for your child.  We will soon begin working on a one Alphabet letter a week as well as different themes throughout the year.  I do realize this may not be age appropriate for every child.  However I feel it is very important that all children be exposed to this.  When learning a new letter, we might make art projects, play games, or even do some cooking!

Show and share will begin next week!  We will have it every Thursday.  The kids may bring something that fits in their backpack to share with the class.

This year we are relying on parents to provide snack for the children.  We will be sending home a monthly snack calendar with your child’s name highlighted on their week to bring snack (cereal, crackers, pretzels, fruit, cookies, etc.)  Please do not send snacks with peanut butter.  You do not need to send a drink, as we provide water for the children.

A comment on separation anxiety (parent and child):  Everyone experiences discomfort when feeling uncertain.  Children make their parents feel terrible for leaving them or putting them on the bus.  If your child is feeling like this, you can best help them (and us) by matter-of-factly acknowledging their feelings with simple words in a calm voice.  Prolonging the separation does not generally help and may add to your child’s distress.  Your child will be reassured by your confidence that all is well.  We will happy to console concerned parents with a note or call after your child has settled into that day.

Daily Parent Communication Folder

Your child’s folder will be sent home every day with the daily note.  Please be sure to check and empty the folder every day…..there will be important notes along with their masterpieces they have created at school.

If you have any other questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email, write a note or call!  Communication is key to your child’s school experience!

I am looking forward to an amazing year!

Thank you,

Mrs. Bauman
